How do I get involved?
The PTO meets the second Monday of each month in the Costello Media Center. No advance sign up is required—just show up (if child care is needed, Athens High School students are available to watch children who are potty trained.) You can attend as many or as few of the meetings as you wish. You can also get involved by volunteering for a variety of PTO positions and events.

Fundraising
The PTO Fundraising activities allow for the purchase of school equipment, such as classroom smart boards, class field trip transportation, all school assemblies and so much more!
Box Tops for Education
Box Tops from General Mills Cereals, Betty Crocker, and other products can be dropped off in the box in the school lobby. These are collected and redeemed for cash (10 cents per Box Top). This project is ongoing throughout the year. Look for more fun contests between the classrooms, which helped us earn over $1,000 last school year. Be sure to tell family and friends to clip and save too!
Restaurant Nights
Throughout the school year Costello partners with various restaurants around Troy such as Zoyo, Granite City, and Mod Pizza, just to name a few. During the designated night, 15-20% of each sale goes to the Costello PTO! This is a fun way to have a family night out AND raise money for Costello!
Kroger Rewards
Make free $$ for Costello by doing your everyday shopping. A percentage of any purchases made using your Kroger Club card will be sent to Costello PTO. Anyone can do it! Grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors! Just visit www.krogercommunityrewards.com, click on Michigan and click on "Enroll" or "Re-enroll" to select Costello Elementary as your rewards benefactor! We average OVER $2000 a year just with this program. Registration for this program needs to be renewed ANNUALLY EVERY APRIL. Check the bottom of your Kroger receipts to ensure that Costello is your named organization.
Fun Run
This is a great fundraiser that motivates the children to raise money for their school in a healthy way. For the past two years we have beat our goal that we set. For the 2019/2020 school year our goal was $25,000 and we have surpassed it. There are opportunities to help prior and on the day of the run. We love getting the support from the entire community, the Troy Police Department and the Troy Fire Department come and make the day so special.
Annual Night Auction
The annual night Auction is something that should not be missed! This is the biggest fundraiser for Costello, it takes a lot of hours of planning to make the night so special. The auction will have an auctioneer, live & silent items, 50/50 raffle and so much more!
Costello Fair
This is a fun day for parents and students (present and past) to come to the school and just have fun! We have games for children of all ages and of course let’s not forget about the classroom baskets. Every classroom puts together a basket and children can purchase raffle tickets and enter to win the basket.
Cash Donations
Another way of supporting the Costello PTO. We welcome cash donations anytime!
Please let us know if you have any ideas for other fundraising events or wish to help coordinate any of those listed above.
Spirit Wear
You can order Costello Spirit Wear online all year round. The spirit wear is just not for the children, they have options for everyone!
It is very simple to order, and they deliver the items to your child’s classroom. It cannot get any easier than that! If you are ordering a gift for your child, you do have the option to have it delivered to the office.
Just go to https://costello.itemorder.com/sale
- Choose your items and securely check out with your credit card.
Green School
Costello is a GREEN SCHOOL!
This program began as a grassroots initiative at Hartland High School in Livingston County in 2005. This effort resulted in Governor Jennifer Granholm signing Public Act 146 into law in May of 2006. Oakland County became involved with this program in the 2007-2008 school year, and awarded the Michigan Green School designation to 45 public and private schools during the first year. Oakland County had more schools participate than any other county in the state.
Award Levels
The Michigan Green Schools Program encourages public and private schools to participate in environmentally friendly and energy savings activities.
A school achieving 10 of the 20 listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Green School.
A school achieving 15 of the listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Emerald School.
A school completing 20 of the listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Evergreen School.
Your children practice BEING GREEN at Costello every day, Costello was awarded the Evergreen School designation in April 2020.
These links provide additional resources and activities to promote Green Schools and energy conservation at home and in the community. Check them out!

Volunteers
Please join the classroom volunteers that help make Costello the best place to celebrate learning! Your time will help in making the school year highly successful for our kids and is greatly appreciated.
You may sign up at Open House/Curriculum Night in September for any of the jobs on the sign-up sheets posted outside your child’s classroom. If every parent could sign-up for 1-2 items, the lists would be complete and the parties successful!
There are many different jobs for Classroom Volunteers. We are always in need of help and your kids love your involvement in thir classrooms!
We are looking for:
- Room Parents
- Room Parent Assistants
- Auction/Fair Project Leaders & Assistants
- Party Hosts
- Party Volunteers (food, beverage, paper products, etc.)
- 5th Grade Celebration Coordinators
- 5th Grade Celebration Helpers
